At our clinic, we provide custom dentures for clients across the Gold Coast, including:
This depends on each individual case, but there are various points to consider. Generally, plastic dentures are thick and cover a large surface area. This is to give the denture strength, so it does not break too easily. However, if there are very few teeth remaining in your upper jaw, covering the roof of the mouth can give the denture more stability and retention. It’s quicker and easier to add a tooth onto a plastic denture if you lose any more teeth in the future.
A metal denture generally does not cover as much surface area as a plastic denture. It is usually thinner because it’s much stronger. This is a good option if there are not too many teeth to be replaced. However, it does take longer to add a tooth to a metal denture if you lose any more teeth.
As with everything, price is always a consideration. Plastic dentures are cheaper than metal dentures. For an exact quote, call and arrange an appointment to speak to our team.
Dentures can break for several reasons. The denture plastic is quite resilient, but dropping the denture onto tiles can cause it to crack or chip. If you are eating and the denture breaks, the most common reason is that the denture is not fitting well and this is causing a see-saw action on the denture, so it breaks down the weakest point. Another factor can be that the relationship between top and bottom dentures is not quite right and it is causing an uneven force distribution.
Repairing a denture usually takes a few hours. Still, we do need to consider why it breaks and fix the cause and not just the break itself so that it does not keep happening.
No. You should never use toothpaste to clean any denture. Toothpaste is excellent for natural teeth, but dentures are not as hard as natural teeth. As toothpaste is abrasive, it will wear the denture away more quickly than Prozcare Paste or soap.
